PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Propylene is a colorless, odorless, slightly sweet, and highly flammable gas that burns with a bright flame; it has a low explosive limit (2%–11.1%) and low solubility in water, though it is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and diethyl ether.

Product Usage

The unsaturated double bond in the propylene molecule renders it chemically reactive; it is primarily used to produce polypropylene (PP) as well as a range of key chemicals such as acrylonitrile, propylene oxide, acrylic acid, and cumene, serving as a starting material for numerous products including plastics, synthetic rubber, and fibers. Industrially, it is mainly produced via processes such as catalytic cracking of petroleum and propane dehydrogenation (PDH). Propylene is flammable and explosive, forming explosive mixtures when combined with air; inhalation at high concentrations causes anesthetic and asphyxiating effects, and it is classified as a hazardous chemical.
