PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Styrene is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H8; its structure comprises a benzene ring and a vinyl group. Also known as vinylbenzene or cinnamene (CAS No. 100-42-5), it is a colorless, transparent, and flammable liquid at room temperature. It has a density of 0.906 g/cm³, is insoluble in water but soluble in most organic solvents (such as ethanol and diethyl ether), and serves as an important monomer for the production of synthetic resins, ion-exchange resins, and synthetic rubber.

Product Usage

Polymer Industry: In the polymer industry, styrene serves as a crucial monomer for synthesizing target polymers, the most common of which is polystyrene (PS). Polystyrene is a widely used plastic characterized by high transparency, excellent mechanical properties, and strong chemical resistance; it finds extensive application in areas such as food packaging, electrical appliance housings, and toys. Additionally, styrene is used to synthesize other copolymers, such as acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer (SAN copolymer).
